Having loved art since I can remember, I completed my A-Levels and went on to do an art and design foundation course at Dewsbury College. It turned out to be the best year ever as they introduced me to ceramics. I specialised in ceramics during the time I was there and completed the course with distinction.

I was introduced to the addictive nature of clay in 1995, whilst attending evening classes. I continued to study part time until 2001 when I started a full-time design course at York College specialising in ceramics and glass. After graduating I became a participant in the York College Visual Enterprise Scheme, receiving support and help from the Arts Council to develop my creative business.

We offer two ranges of work – jewellery and textured vessels and wall pieces – which while being visually quite different are both inspired by the urban environment. In the case of the textured work the starting point is the peeling paint on the shop fronts in Deptford High Street, in the case of the jewellery it is manhole covers, graffiti, and flowers in the local park.

We met while attending the university and decided to teamed up and form this company. We now have a Ceramic studio in Seaham, were we design and make our work. Attending craft and trade fairs, up and down the country, taking on various commissions, and fulfilling orders from galleries and shops keep us fairly busy.

The development of my current work began in 1993 when my son began infant school. I had originally completed a degree in 3D design/ ceramics in Cardiff. Inspiration for my earlier works came from my home life as well as a lifelong interest in museum artefacts, ancient history, myths and legends. Over the years I have revisited and recalled some of those elements to create my current collection.

Inspiration for these ceramic figures came from an appreciation of the history of art and costume, TV costume dramas, classic books by Jane Austen, Dickens and the Brontes, artists Gustave Klimpt, Alphonse Mucha and Degas and the Art Nouveau movement. The Pied Piper of Hamelin and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie were also influential, but most important of all are a love of life drawing and observations of children playing, especially with their mothers in playgroups.
